Default Kids Fishing Event June 2 [POSTPONED!]

Hey, y'all! The BOD has been looking at putting together a Kids' Fishing Day this year. I was a little bit late in putting this in front of the Board for their consideration, but all is not lost. Gwinnett County is sponsoring a Kids' Fishing Event on June 2nd at Jones Bridge Park (obviously the Gwinnett side). There is a need, however, for volunteers to distribute bait to young anglers as well as to provide some mentoring on the water. (And there's also a little bit of help we need with the stocking first thing in the morning.) I think a total of five folks can handle the day pretty easily.

Details on timing will be forthcoming on Monday evening after we have received finalizations from Gwinnett County for the exact timing. However, we do know that the event will commence at 9:00AM and will not go past 3:00PM.

I will be on site to set up our canopy with a few tables and chairs and distribute bait. I'll update this thread over the next few days to keep everyone up with waht is going on and what we need in order to help out Gwinnett County and to ensure that a bunch of kids have a great day fishing.

Please feel free to sign up in this thread to volunteer with this event. We'll need a couple folks at our booth to distribute bait and a couple folks to help "on the water". (If you're considering "on water" aid, keep in mind that most of these young-uns will be using something akin to a Zebco 202. It's gonna be a lot of bait casting, but I think it's still possible to teach a dead drift system by teaching them to cast upstream with a bobber - or a strike indicator if you MUST call it that)

Consider helping out at this event. This type of interaction with the community is what NGTO strives to do. If you can volunteer for an hour or more it would be very helpful and would help to build NGTO's presence as a serious supporter of our cold water fisheries in a big way. And, if you have children ages fifteen and younger, consider bringing them down to Jones Bridge for a morning and afternoon of some great fun!

Volunteers needed for:

Fish Stocking (09:00 - 09:30 hours)
No need to volunteer for this part. We're just gonna have a good time chuckin' fish in the water after their little truck ride from the hatchery.

Sign me up. I usually show up after the event to cash in, figured I'll help out one of these days.

31 May 2018:

Just received a call from Gwinnett County. Due to the heavy flow rates expected over this weekend and the coming several days, this event has been postponed. It is expected that it will be rescheduled for a later "free fishing day" this year.

The next opportunity will be September 22nd.

Thanks to all who had volunteered for this event. I know you may not have signed up in this thread but I received several e-mails from many of you. I'll respond to each of you via PM or e-mail to ensure you're aware of the postponement.
